What Are The Different Types Of Commercial HVAC Systems?

Regardless of the type of business you run, one of the unspoken rules of being a successful business owner is working to ensure that your customers are comfortable while they are conducting business with you. Having a commercial HVAC system that works correctly is absolutely essential to the day to day success of your operation – at the bare minimum, it ensures that your customers are comfortable and content. In some cases, such as if you manage a hospital, restaurant, or another facility where there are items that need to be kept at a certain temperature for safety reasons (such as storing food or medicine), it is actually a legal requirement to have a working commercial HVAC system due to ensure safety.

If you are planning on purchasing a new commercial HVAC system for your building, you may find that there are a lot of different options on the market and that you may not be familiar with all of them. We will now take a couple of moments to go into a little more detail about some of the most common models of commercial HVAC systems you can purchase, along with their benefits.

Single Split Systems

Single split HVAC systems are one of the most popular choices among enterprise-level business owners when it comes to commercial HVAC systems. These heating and cooling systems are, relatively speaking, compact and highly affordable. They are ideal for locations that house small offices, commercial shopping, server rooms, and even restaurants.

The single split system often includes an air conditioner to cool the refrigerant. They also include a furnace, which will convert the refrigerant, and an evaporator coil, which will circulate the air throughout the building. The system can be controlled using a standard-issue thermostat or panel.

Single split systems are far cheaper to implement than installing an entire centralized system, which is part of why they are so popular. It is also worth noting that each unit is self-contained, so if one of them stops functioning for any reason, the others will still continue to work in their stead.

Multi Split Systems

Multi split HVAC systems have a lot in common, operationally speaking, with single split systems. But functionally speaking, there are significant differences between the two.

When you install a single split system, each indoor unit must be paired with a corresponding outdoor unit in order for the system to work correctly. A multi split system, however, does not have these same operating requirements. In fact, you can connect up to nine outdoor units to just one outdoor unit.

One of the great benefits of having a multi split HVAC system is that it cuts down on energy usage. Normally, a significant amount of energy is used each time the compressor in a commercial HVAC system turns on and off. However, a multi split system has sensors that identify temperature changes and make corrections as needed.

The multi split system also has heat pumps. This helps to save money on heating by moving heat from warm areas to cool ones. It is also more aesthetically appealing because fewer overall units are needed to achieve the same result, thus helping to preserve the look of the building.

VRF Systems

VRF HVAC systems, or variable refrigerant flow systems, are more ideal for medium to large spaces, such as office spaces or hotels. There are two types of VRF systems currently available: heat pump and heat recovery.

A heat pump VRF system can provide either heating or cooling to your building, but it should be noted that it cannot do both at the same time. This is an option worth exploring if the building has more of an open floor plan type of layout. The heat recovery system, on the other hand, can provide both heating and cooling at the same time. This is ideal if the building has a number of smaller rooms instead of wide open spaces.

These commercial HVAC systems are known for their reliability and efficiency, as well as for their ease of operation, which makes them a very flexible choice for business owners. They can also be installed in a relatively short amount of time, which means that your business will not suffer any sort of major inconvenience during the installation process.
